What is the Halal Reads Official Review service?

The Halal Reads Official Review is a professional, unbiased critique of your book provided by a qualified team of reviewers. It offers honest, objective feedback on literary merit and insight into how your work aligns with or addresses the values and interests of the Muslim reading community.

What makes a Halal Reads review unique?

Our reviews are unique because they combine professional literary criticism with an awareness of Islamic values and cultural relevance. Our diverse team of reviewers (including librarians, journalists, and scholars) provides objective analysis while maintaining our brand’s focus on Integrity, Remedy, and Faith-based literature.

What types of books do you accept for review?

We accept fiction, non-fiction, Young Adult (YA), and children’s books across all genres. All submitted books must be written by a Muslim author.

Does my book have to align with Islamic values to be reviewed?

No. We review all eligible books written by Muslim authors. However, our reviews will objectively reflect your book’s alignment (or lack thereof) with our core values. Books containing explicit content (such as gratuitous cursing or intimate scenes) will still be reviewed, but this will be reflected critically in the final assessment.

How long is the review, and who writes it?

Traditional Reviews: Approximately 250-500 words in length.
Picture Book Reviews: Approximately 200 words in length.

Each review is written by a qualified reviewer from our diverse team, which includes professionals from literary, academic, and business backgrounds.

Do you review published books or only ARCs?

We accept both Advance Reader Copies (ARCs) and already published books.

What if my review is negative? Do I have to publish it?

No. You maintain complete control over your review. When your review is ready, you will receive the full, objective text. If you feel the review is not what you need for promotion, you can simply choose not to publish it on the Halal Reads website. The review remains private.

Where am I permitted to use a positive review?

If you choose to publish a positive review on our site, you are granted full permission to use the text for promotional purposes, including:
Your personal website
Your book’s front or back cover
Your book’s internal advanced praise section
Social media and press releases
Using the review lends professionalism and insight to your marketing materials.

What is the step-by-step process for submitting my book?

Request Review: Select your review option (Traditional/Picture Book, Standard/Expedited) and complete payment via our secure online system (the “Cart”).
Submit Manuscript: You will be directed to an upload page to easily submit your digital manuscript (PDF, Word, or ePub).
Review is Conducted: Your book is assigned to a qualified reviewer who reads the complete work and writes the full, objective review.
Download Review: You will receive an email link to your secure Author Dashboard to download your completed review.
You Decide to Publish: You choose whether or not to publish the review on https://www.google.com/search?q=HalalReads.com.
